For the faithful who are tired of waiting

Prayed and heard nothing?
Let's look at what Jesus said about asking.

You've prayed for weeks, maybe years. You showed up and did what you were taught, and life still isn't what you asked for. The silence is its own kind of tired.

First, an honest word

We can't tell you why.
And we won't pretend to.

Anyone who tells you exactly why your prayer hasn't been answered is guessing. You may have heard the reasons already: not enough faith, wrong timing, a hidden sin. Those can land like a grade on a test you didn't know you were taking.

  • You keep praying, and the silence starts to feel personal.
  • You wonder what you missed, or what you're supposed to do differently.
  • You've done what you were taught, and life still isn't what you asked for.

Here is how Jesus once introduced a story about someone who kept asking:

“One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.” Luke 18:1 (NLT)

In that story a widow keeps coming back to a judge who doesn't care about her, until he finally acts. Nobody in it is told they asked the wrong way. Then Jesus turns the story around. If even that judge gave in, He asks, “Will he keep putting them off?” (Luke 18:7, NLT) The point of the story is that God is not the judge.

In His own words

He invited the weary.
Not the flawless.

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NLT)

Tired prayers count too. That invitation has no entry requirement, and it doesn't ask you to get your asking right first.

On asking itself, He said:

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7 (NLT)

And then He described the One you are asking:

“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” Matthew 7:11 (NLT)

These are big promises, and if you have been asking for a long time, the distance between His words and your life can sting. We won't explain that away. What we can do is walk through what Jesus said about how God sees you, because that is a different question than why the answer hasn't come yet.
